This unique feature has driven the rapid growth in the mobile network industry, changing it from a new technology into a massive industry within less than two decades. Handoff is the essential functionality for dealing with the mobility of the mobile users. This paper shows the soft handoff effects on the uplink direction of IS-95 CDMA networks is carried out, leading to optimize soft handoff for capacity under perfect power control approach. In practical systems, there is a nonzero handoff completion delay and soft handoff provides the required robustness to delays, although it comes at the expense of additional network resources. Thus, there is a tradeoff between the extent of soft handoff required and the handoff execution delay. This paper presents an analytical framework to study this tradeoff and also discuss simulation results simulated with the help of Matlab. For this, handoff dropping probability is minimized up to 0.1%. Indexing terms/

The ever increasing demand of the subscribers has put pressure on the capacity of wireless networks around the world. To utilize the scare resources, in the present paper we propose an optimal allocation scheme for an integrated wireless/cellular model with handoff priority and handoff guarantee services. The suggested algorithm optimally allocates the resources in each cell and dynamically adj...

Characterization of Soft Handoff in CDMA Systems

Many analytical approaches have been proposed for handoff analysis based on hard handoff in mobile communication systems. In code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems with soft handoff, mobile stations (MS’s) within a soft-handoff region (SR) use multiple radio channels and receive their signals from multiple base stations (BS’s) simultaneously. Therefore, SR’s should be considered for hando...

The Impact of Soft-handoff on the Downlink Capacity of Mobile Cdma Systems

The use of soft-handoff may have a substantial impact on the downlink of cellular CDMA systems, by reducing its capacity. This depends heavily on the parameters used in the handoff procedure. In this paper we estimate this impact with several sets of parameter values. We first derive an analytical solution for a general CDMA system. Then the IS-95 handoff procedure is simulated in order to esti...

Performance Analysis of Handoff Microcell/picocell Radio System Algorithm in Fiber-optic

The fiber-optic radio system was proposed to solve the cost problem of micro/picocell system. In this system, all channel elements in a system can be dynamically assigned when the SDS is used. In this paper, we analyzed the performance of soft handoff used as intergroup handoff in the CDMA based fiber-optic cellular system with SDS. Performance is evaluated in view of blocking and handoff refus...
